The Angkor Temples

It's difficult to be selective on hundreds of photos taken during this day-long visit to the Angkor temples, and even more difficult to describe. Truly one of those "you just have to see it to believe it" times.
The ruins are covered in overgrown roots at several temples - beyond description.
Poles holding up the walls - a little scary indeed.

Ta Prohm temple ruins.

There was not a ripple in this stream as we strolled toward the entrance to one of the temples, but a sure illustration of a jungle scene.
I had no idea these enormous trees were hollow.

Apsara dancer carvings on the walls are, literally, everywhere.
The Angkor Temples, they say, are the heart and soul of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Visitors can opt for one, two, three-day passes for viewing these amazing temples (wats) in Siem Reap - the prime reason most travelers visit Siem Reap. I will leave it to your research to dig the historical events of these temples. Suffice it to say they date back to AD800 and literally spans miles; the restoration of the temples continues and there are many places where you can see 2x4's holding up near-crumbling blocks and walls.
Some apsara dancers - photo opportunity for visitors - there is definitely no lack of these!
Angkor Thom and the Bayon faces - incredible. The size of these is a few stories high.
Fallen blocks and pillars lie on scattered on the ground everywhere.

The mother of all temples.....Angkor Wat - only the tops showing.

Trying to get a sunset shot....along with thousands of others. Once we got to the top of the hill, we were met by about 2-300 other people waiting to walk the steps to the top of ruin for this shot.
